Just after the strictest days of lockdown, we have seen, in many European Countries, the rising of Movements for the so called “Sovereignty”, claiming to uphold human rights that governments were oppressing through some limitations to personal movements, and social relationships. In particular, wearing the mask was (and still is) considered a serious limitation of personal freedom. You must not to forget that maybe, the real origin of the covid-19 is controversial, and people have the right to be fully and transparently informed about this pandemic. If they are not, it’s true that they are not able to judge the situation, with all the political consequences. This said, maybe it could be useful to consider which are the real powers limiting people’s freedom (and who knows, maybe behind them we could also find the system and the lobbies who created the covid-19 situation). Are we really sure the mask is the real problem? Maybe, we should look elsewhere.
For instance, have you ever thought how consumerism is keeping people in slavery, just inducing fake needs, and pushing people in buying what they don’t need? Have you ever thought how many junk food people eat day by day, not thinking to its real quality, but just to its color, its (artificial) flavor, its testimonial on TV?
And maybe, there is another form of hidden slavery, the so called “drug slavery”: everyday, on TV screens, we can see a lot of advertising selling new drugs, for headache and stomachache. In 90% of cases, these drugs are useless, because people could simply avoid the problem just adopting a healthy eating, or using very simple, old natural remedies for this kind of disturbs. But in reality, in general, people just follow TV and Big Pharma, giving up their own thinking. And do you still think the mask is the problem?
So, maybe, if these defenders of Sovereignty really wish a strong revolution, they don’t need riots, clashes and violence: people should just change mind while shopping at the supermarket. If you think pollution is affecting and damaging our lives, buy organic and local products, whenever it’s possible; stop using cars, and so on. Or, if you think economic exploitation is a form of slavery, choose products by companies with social responsiveness.
Finally, are you sure that Iphones&co. are not “slavers”? Try to think how long you fix the eyes on that screen, forgetting what and who is around you, missing a conversation, a book, the landscape, and simply absorbing passively (fake) news, titles, images… without substance? Isn’t it a form of slavery? And let’s not forget the slavery Iphone&co. cause in Africa, in the mining of raw materials in Congo and other Countries.
So, maybe, the problem is not the mask; it just helps in preventing contagion. If people really wish to be free, they should try to change their lifestyle with some simple gestures, peacefully and silently.
It’s simple, but you know how simplest things are the most difficult to be done.
